New Lionroad Site

the_seeker: Hi, mates. Long time ago I promised to set up a new forum for Lionroaders....something I have completely forgotten about, hence apologies are at hand to all of you. I have finally set up a new forum (better later than ever, huh?). Now, here's the deal. If we still want that new forum, I will need some input from you guys. I have just set up some basics - nothing fancy so far. Somethings that are a priority: 1. Forum categories/sub-categories - I don't remember what they exactly were at the old forum, hence, I am not able to recreate them on my own. Therefore, I need some input from you, guys. What categories do you want to see there? (I have initially put some basic ones, but they can be easily changed/deleted - I just put them there so that the forum wasn't empty for the time being) 2. I haven never used SMF before, but it seems there are plenty of themes and modifications available. So please, let me know what theme/themes you'd like to use for the forums, and if you find some useful modifications you'd like to see at Lionroad as well, please share your thoughts. http://www.simplemachines.org/ Again, I have just put the forum up, so it needs tuning and adjusting. I am sharing the link already only so that you can see what we have to work with and cand comment and suggest, so that I can put it in a shape enjoyable/preferable to all of you. So please, refrain from registering and posting at the new forum for now, til we manage to tune it a little. Here's the link: http://lionroad.byethost8.com///index.php Now, I'd like to hand it over to the old moderators of Lionroads, if possible, so that they can take it from here. So it would be good if some old admins spoke here in this regard. Meanwhile, I am awaiting your suggestions and wishes.

the_seeker: ok, 100 views and no comment yet. should i assume there's no more interest in reactivating a lionroad forum and i should drop the idea?

indianajones: Well I was about to comment but since I am busy ( My son is playing his category tournament) I had thought of only watching the comments and then give my suggestion . Any ways in brief ... I think its a good idea and my heartiest greetings for your success; I'll comment further after a few days when I am free. P.S-I saw that your layout was good too and you could just wait for a few days for ppl to walk in May be I speak for many chess fans out here....? Moreover many of us find that this forum is serving us just fine (Its just my idea) and we owe Immortal a great deal to have given a place here

Tix: This looks fine the_seeker!

subimm: 100 views with no comment?! HMMMMMMMM... Well since this is my first view on this thread (got sidetracked from chess this month), I think I better comment before the statistic becomes worse! Seeker, you are doing us a great service if you can get this going. This site here is wonderful and I think we're all quite grateful for it, but I view it as a backup (to be kept in mind should our next "lionroad" have trouble). I remember the "books" category, which was subdivided into the usual suspects: opening, middlegame, endgame, misc.

jparra: Hello, and sorry for my bad english... I like this forum in which I see all the new topics together. I mean that I prefer few sections than a lot of subsections. A "Electronic book" category is good for me, but I don't like a lot of subsections for openigs, middlegame, endgame. etc. In the same way, I prefer "Programs", "Engines" and "Video" main sections without subsections like "Chessbase", "Covekta", "ChessLecture.com", "ICC", and so on. Of course, this is only my opinion... Good work and good luck, Seeker!!!

Celtic: Your new forum is hosted by Godaddy. If you want to put illegal material, I suggest it is available for registered users only.

sparky: Just came across this forum today. See all those old names from lionroad... Miss u guys! seeker: That looks great! Now do we move over? or will this forum do? Hmm...

Tommy: Now do we move over? or will this forum do? Hmm... The new forum is very nice. But here we are more secure. The new forum might be vulnerable to little weasels. Just my 2 cents.

the_seeker: Ok, guys. I am not familiar with any security holes both Celtic and Tommy are implying - can you elaborate on that? Is there any way to counter that? Or should we just drop the new forum?

dux: Hello The_Seeker, they are talking about "ilegal" content, you know, those links :) Godaddy can shut the site down in that case, worst, if you registered it using real personal data you may have some problems... If you are going to allow people to put some "links" there, be sure that in no way the forum can be related to You (the real You) The forum can still be very useful even if no link is posted in the "open" or "public" section, it can be used for daily news, for contact between lionroaders, for no problematic links and then you may still have a private section of a few members where links are posted.. Regards, dux

the_seeker: I see. What alternative cpul;d we use then to have it as safe as possible from all the Skinners of the world? Can someone recommend any free host that's most reliable or can sahre some server space?

the_seeker: Okay, guys. Seeing as there's not much interest in the site altogether. I guess it's reasonable to ditch the idea of a new site for Lionroad and stick to immortal's forum instead. I really was hoping though for some kind of english-language forum, especially since I don't speak russian. It would be also cool if we could reorganize somehow, seeing as the activity grew a little stale, the majority of input being engine-related.

Tix: hmmm, that 's always been the main problem: the perfect host ... You're right that this English Speaking Area needs to be re-arranged. Maybe Azaad can talk with Immortal and Renegat about this.

Tommy: hmmm, that 's always been the main problem: the perfect host ... You're right that this English Speaking Area needs to be re-arranged. Maybe Azaad can talk with Immortal and Renegat about this. Azaad please arrange something. It looks like we are destined to be squatters on immortal223.borda.ru for eternity, so we might as well make try to make the best of it.

Azaad: Tommy writes: Azaad please arrange something. It looks like we are destined to be squatters on immortal223.borda.ru for eternity, so we might as well make try to make the best of it. OK, start giving input guys . What changes do you suggest in the English section ? Once we get a rough consensus on what we want I will take it up with immortal / Renegat .

Tommy: OK, start giving input guys . What changes do you suggest in the English section ? Once we get a rough consensus on what we want I will take it up with immortal / Renegat . A Forum structure similar to the old Lionroad is what I had in mind. Here's my suggestion: [pre2]General Forum Rules Forum Help and Suggestions Greetings Engines Free Engines Commercial Engines Engine Opening Books Free Books Commercial Books Software Freeware GUI's Training Programs Tournaments Human Tournaments Engine Tournaments Books Misc. Openings Middle Game End Game[/pre2]

Gambit_Man: I agree with Tommy's suggestion but would add one further section for databases/game collections.

Tix: It seems ok, I would even skip the "General" subforum.

Gambit_Man: Azaad and Immortal, Thanks for reorganizing our English section - we are getting there !!

immortal223: Gambit_Man Thanks 2 Renegat23, he reorganized English section. It's up now to you, guys, to fill it with content
