Bye bye gbhchess Notice to all members of CTorrent: For many reasons, the primary one being the hunting down and banning of torrent sites around the world, we have decided to implement the following: The site has been closed to all new members and is now a Private/"Invitation Only" site. A problem is that we have not had any investment nor do we get any advertising revenue. We exist soley on the largess of our caring (and very few) Premium members. So: Ordinary Members - those that are not Premium, will be given 2 weeks (14 days) from today to become Premium. Members can convert to Annual Premium for the special discounted minimum donation of $30.00USD during the first 7 days (1st week); Members can convert to Annual Premium for the special discounted minimum donation of $40.00USD from day 8 to day 14 - during the second week. Those members not donating to become Premium will have their accounts disabled (removed from site) on day 15 (Monday, December 21, 2009) Existing Premium Members who donate amounts described above during those periods will get the year of Premium membership added on to the end of their current membership (if Quarterly Premium currently, then the year is tacked on at the end of their quarter, and if annual, then the year is tacked on at the end of their annual Premium status). After the 2 weeks are up, we will implement the "Invite System" - ony Premium members will have that ability. Besides the ability to have "Invites" through trading SeedBonus, Founding Premiums and Lifetime Premiums will get extra "Invites" monthly. After the 2 weeks are up, a ratio maintaining system will be strictly implemented here with members being able to either purchase and/or trade seedbonus for "increased ratio" by a scale to be described later. After the 2 weeks are up, Newly invited will have ordinary member status for a trial period of 2 weeks from time of invite acceptance, and if that invitee does not become a Premium during that time, he/she will be booted off the site. After the 2 weeks are up, all members of all classes will still have their membership (same class as in ctorrent) on our to be launched sister site: http://attacktheking.com - open to all - no torrents there - just play chess, learn, kibitz, leagues, teams, tournaments,... Remember: THE CLOCK IS TICKING.

dekstump: Same here, but frankly it's not a great loss since Demonoid is back in business (and free, as opposed to Chess Torrents).
chicharon: i also tried logging in today and got the "this account has been disabled by an administrator" message. frankly, immortal is better than gbh. their admins and premium members, or at least some of them, are really rude. although my request for a VIP account was denied, there was no sense of loss at all. immortal and demonoid are a whole lot better than gbh, anyway.

Azaad: Guys , I don't think trashing a site ( and particularly it's members ) with which we share some members serves any useful purpose . If you say something uncomplimentary about premium members they have a right to respond and then we will have a flame war .

Ikhsandr: some questions: - Do invites last forever? ie can I make an account say a month after I receive an invite? - Do you have to pay immediately after making an account before downloading anything? - Why haven't members just posted content here or on demonoid? I mean Ctorrent's content is all copyrighted and any true file sharer wants to share the content with as many people as possible. It's just straight piracy to profiteer off of it. anyhow I would like an invite if they don't expire...

Tommy: They are dead serious. I was a long time member and they deleted my account when I did not become a premium member.
Kir: Just a guess, but this Donna Goldstein (the owner I believe) seems to have been a teacher at a prison school in her former life. The rules say "no this, no that". Strict limitations everywhere in bold capital letters and general slavery feeling. Not my type of sites :(.

Only occasional pirated books 3 months after release when everybody already has them and crappy Foxxy openings and Dzhindzhi DVDs (Your chess is probably better if you don't watch them) Not worth 40$. Ikhsandr2: Yes. ctorrent has 1 but really why pay those pirates when we can pay Avrukh himself? It's one of those works where the author should be justifiably rewarded. It's not some 3rd rate Dzindzhi DVD or Eric Schiller database dump written on coke (Benko has some interesting Schiller stories...)

Azaad: I'm perfectly happy with «less than 10%» material that is available on the immortal forum and I never considered joining ctorrent but I agree that trash talking a site and asking for invites don't go together . If you don't like a site ignore it .
Ikhsandr2: I just wanted to see what was on it as someone I know talks about it. I never intended to actually pay for a full membership. I just wanted to register, see what they exclusive stuff they have, and possibly download what might interest me. The answer was subpar opening videos and the occasional book sequestered away for those who pay but if I wanted a book that badly, I would purchase it legitimately as I know several notable chess authors personally. If I like a book enough to actually want to read the whole thing in depth, I purchase it as I like to read on the toilet and bringing my laptop in the bathroom wouldn't be a good thing to do and I compulsively buy books. Why not ask for someone to upload them? After all, there are others out there who share my viewpoint that profiteering off pirated material is morally reprehensible. I don't see what's wrong for badmouthing such a website. I gave it my review Two thumbs down and a butt.

Oh, and Dvoretsky's Analytical Manual, Yusupov Build Up Your Chess1, Moskalenko's French, True Lies in Chess, Chebanenko Slav According to Bologan, Rowson's 7 Deadly Chess Sins, KID Battle Plans by Andrew Martin, kasparov's MGP4 in CB format by everyman etc, etc. Other than the commercial sites - there just isn't anywhere else! Despite you Ikhsandr2, your attempted trashing of CT and childish attempts at badmouthing its members got you nowhere. I don't see anyone from CT ( or indeed from any other site ) doing the same here as you have done over on CT. This is a great site - It certainly has my respect as does the members who frequent it. Now my rant is over - you won't be hearing from me again on this thread - I've said my piece. If I've gone against the Immortals site policy then I openly apologise to all its members.
