Ultimate Chess Library Project

the_seeker: Hi, mates. I have a proposition to make. I think we could reorganize a bit, with little joint effort, to create an ultimate collection of chess items. With so many places dropping like pawns in the endgame, I think we could use one stable place where we could upload and download from. Here's what I have in mind. Let's use Mediafire for our repository. There are numerous advantages: 1. It's free. 2. Files don't get deleted. 3. There's unlimited space. 4. Both download and upload speed are maximum and we don't have to worry about seeders either. I have been using Mediafire for Chess Library for a long time now, and without any problems. So it's good by test. Now, as for the execution, I imagie thsi too like as follows: we piuck up a few members who have relatively fast connection, time on their hands and are willing to upload chess goodies to the designated account. Then we divide the material amongst them: 1 person uploads chessbase stuff, the other covekta, another one ICC videos, someone else ebooks, etc etc. Hope you see where I am going with this. I try to do that myself at Chess Library, but it's a lot of uploading for one person, not to metnion its time consuming and I am lazy. However, if each of the uploaders took care only of one category, we'd have a full library in no time. I really trhionk this could work and would help us to have a complete chess library well organized and in not time, with little effort. We could even use my Chess Library as the starting point, as there are many uploads already. One thing I would advise against though is sharing the account access with all, instead of chosen, reliable members. The reason for that is simple - with access to the account one can delete all the uploads with one click, and we all know there are some mean-spirited people lurking around, as few of them as there might be. Hope someone steps up willing to help. I for one, volunteer to take care of my share of uploads. So who else could chip in? mediafire.com/antoniusblock

Îòâåòîâ - 88, ñòð: 1 2 3 4 5 All

dux: This is a great idea Sharing the account with many people is not good and also there is no need for it: If some non-upload member want to share something he can upload it to his own mediafire account, post the link and one of the uploader just add/copy (no need to download-upload anything) that link to the library. The only problem is that not many people has bandwith+material, some here may have good bandwith but not much to share, still little by little... With your idea it is also easy to backup the site, because you have more time, that way you keep the backup private and ready to go

the_seeker: I am sure many people have both the bandwith and the chess goodies, after all, we are all dealing here in chess materials, plus, I very much doubt that all of a sudden everyone is on dial-up. So all we need is some willingness from lionroaders. Basically, if we divide the uploads amongst a few members, each of us would have only a small portion to provide to the chess library. So far, over 80 views, but only one response, which is a bit saddening, coz everyone makes requests or downloads new items, but few are willing to work together and contribute a bit.

chessgod101: I really like this idea. Angeloudied and I have been working on the chess engine directory for some time now. Once I am finished with the engines, I was thinking about expanding it to databases, books, videos, etc..

the_seeker: Chessgod - I propose to join forces and focus on one location for uploads, so that we have one comprehensive library, instead of several accounts. Regardless of location, I am willing to cooperate and hopefully, with some more help, we could have a pretty complete library in no time.

chessgod101: Very Well. We could use my directory if it is okay with you. My collection consists mainly of chess engines. I know you have a lot of books and videos in your library. If you want, I could go ahead and save your library files to my directory, and I will share the password with you via personal message so we can join forces and complete a vast collection of chess material.

indianajones: Count me in too guys ... I have a suggestion though ... Why not everyone upload to mediafire whatever they have ? Then you can just link up the files to your account just as you mentioned ... And you need not share your account with everyone too.(It will be safe that way ) Ill let you know after ten days what I am gonna upload since I am off from my pc due to a tournament and will be on a laptop... But I like your idea and if I remember right i too mooted this idea some months ago ... So ... I am willing really (i.e after ten-twelve days) to help you out.

Gambit_Man: Count me in - I have fast Broadband and would be keen to help and contribute - great idea.

Cheetah: ....................... One thing I would advise against though is sharing the account access with all, instead of chosen, reliable members. The reason for that is simple - with access to the account one can delete all the uploads with one click, and we all know there are some mean-spirited people lurking around, as few of them as there might be. Unfortunately ..... This is very true, Seeker .... There ARE some negative souls here in Chess Cyberspace who can access and read our forum, and who may have some serious jealous streaks .... so I agree ! At least, let's keep it hush-hush for however long we can !!!! And about our repository site selection ...??... Have we considered & weighed the pros and cons of other sites ....???... I know that some free upload sites will delete files after 90 days of inactivity...... and some after 180 days of inactivity ..... but I'm not sure of Mediafire's policy ....???? But our own member Chessgod should have some experience about this. At any rate .................... Count Me In Buddy!!!! I've come to the realization that I'm not getting any younger [67 this January] ...... and I wish TO SHARE All & Everything I HAVE ..... or, Pass It Forward !!!! Like many have said before me ...... You Can't Take It With You !!!!!

the_seeker: Ok, guys, you have mentioned 'linking' several times now - can someone please explain how this works? I see no such option in Mediafire. Is it activated with pro account only? I think the priority is to decide on one account, so that with have the whole library neatly stacked in one place, instead of having to browse several accounts - unless this linking allows to easily link/upload from one account to the other. But will it allow to keep the folders and files neatly categorized and ordered as if all of it have been uploaded in one account? Asfor the designated accoun, chessgod, I really have noobjections against choosing any account. Logically, though, I think it would easier to move the engines, as they take up little space, rather than what's been uploaded to CL already (checked today, its a bit above 52 GB). But again, as long as we choose one account, I am game with anything. Great to see some decisive responses. One other thing I would like o prioritize is having the items neatly catalogued (categories, file/folder naming, etc.) so that they are easily searchable. As soon as we decide on the one single location or this linking feature, I am willing to start uploading (chess books maybe?). p.s. Can you share the link to the engine depository, please?

sparky: Can count me in too! suggestions/ideas: 1. mediafire's a nice place. (can either copy seeker's or start afresh). when the "librarians" have been finalised probably they'll decide on folder structure etc. 2. when uploading, copy to a 2nd acc. librarians keep a backup directory to themselves, just in case (eg someone reports the shared library to mediafire etc).

the_seeker: Ok, I am still waiting for a response from chessgod in the matter of the designated account. Meanwhile, we could divide the the inistail uploads amongst ourselves. Up until now, we have the following volunteers: dux chessgod101 indianajones gambit_man cheetah sparky myself Could everyone please speak up on the matter? What uploads would you start with? I am volunteering to upload books for started, but I can easily upload something else. I think it's crucial everyone picks something they have already neatly catalogues in terms of file nameing and such, so that the material is ready for upload and easily searchable. It wil also allow the uploaders to post the complete lists of the uploaded material easily. We could also create a new forum, specifically realating to the library contents - listsings, offers and requests - but no links. This way we have a place safe from deletion but clear and informative in regards to the library. Alternatively, we could create some sections/subsections here. One more idea that comes to mind is to reorganize in the matter of updates. Who's got access to new ICC lectures? Who's got new scans of some magazine etc etc. This will provide us with the possibility of organizing new uploads and completing our collections.

Tix: Ok, my connection is not that good, but I agree on contributing.

the_seeker: That's great to hear, Tix. I think we could simply establish that those with slow connection take care of small uploads, like scans and other small files. I have relatively good connection, so can upload big files, if necessary.

Tix: Yes, I agree

sparky: Books are good with me.

odessa: Just upload to the appropriate folder here : http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=7fef3909b0a76f8495af63b7d44918aa4ed98907%203b9d5fd1

Cheetah: the_seeker writes: I think we could simply establish that those with slow connection take care of small uploads, like scans and other small files. OKay, then count me in for uploading some of these small file types. I'm probably the only one here who still operates on dialup with an average d/l - u/l rate of between 2.9 & 3.1 k/sec ..... But it's not so much one's connection speed that really matters ..... it's how big one's heart is to share !

Djuko: Hi all, I think the idea is excellent, but I don´t think that its realization should aim the only and unique repository place. It would be much better if we have many different places; in any case more than one place. Why? Because if something unexpected happen, for example a "terrorist attack" on a repository building, a fire or any natural disaster, we´ll be on the safe side if we have our archives in more than one place. Sorry that I cannot contribute more, because I neither have other materials to share, except chess engines, nor I have tecnical knowledge for helping you. Best wishes

joakimvitriol: My uploading speed is not very fast but I can try to upload some smaller files like for instance ICC (chess.fm) videos. Here is Adams-McShane from Tal Memorial: [hideguest]http://www.mediafire.com/myfiles.php[/hideguest]

immortal223: joakimvitriol ïèøåò: My uploading speed is not very fast but I can try to upload some smaller files like for instance ICC (chess.fm) videos. Here is Adams-McShane from Tal Memorial: http://www.mediafire.com/myfiles.php Plz correct d/l link

Kir: joakimvitriol, myfiles.php is not a proper link. Should be some long numbers like above.

joakimvitriol: I have no experience at all in uploading files so you must instruct me what should I do. When I click on the link it works fine. I just copied link from my address bar so I don't know what I did wrong. And it is not game from Tal Memorial it is from London Classic.

immortal223: joakimvitriol D/l link should look like this [hideguest]http://www.mediafire.com/?mmtzkikqtdz[/hideguest]

joakimvitriol: Maybe trick is just to sign out before coping link so try it now I hope it will work: [hideguest]http://www.mediafire.com/myfiles.php?r=ktqnf [/hideguest] By the way I uploaded Carlsen-Kramnik game in the meantime.

immortal223: joakimvitriol No This not that link Try to find Sharing URL This is all you need

joakimvitriol: Ok. I found option "Custom url." so if this url. doesn't work then I am really stupid: [hideguest]mediafire.com/antoniusblock[/hideguest] Edit: It says: "Your URL is the easy way for you to share your files. Whenever someone visits your URL they will reach the shared folder you select below." Right now I am uploading Carlsen-McShane. Edit2: Just tell me that this also not work and I am going to hang myself.

immortal223:

joakimvitriol: Thank god , now I don't have to hang myself and I am uploading McShane-Kramnik.

Cheetah: On Your Mark ----- Set ----- ??????????????? OKay People ..... Seems like We're On The Starting Line Now ! So ..... Am I correct in assuming that I should use Djuko's site for upping .....??? Also, I like The Seeker's suggestion that instead of just upping to Djuko's suggested link randomly, that we up to particular [catagorized] folders ....???? I'm all set here to up my "Commented Games Database", but I wanna make sure that I follow our agreed-upon protocol. Seems like We Need a Traffic Cop / Project Director-Coordinator Here , to let each of us know which way to go ! Otherwise, I'm allready predicting a severe traffic jam approaching ! And I'm Still Here On The Starting Line ...... ! ! !

odessa: Yes,......... yes........... Just give the link where to upload the files. Thanks,

joakimvitriol: Completed London Chess Classic 2009 and Tal Memorial 2009 (3 more games), now I will try to upload Fritz Trainer How to Beat Younger Players (videoless). Right now I am learning how to compress files with 7-zip.

joakimvitriol: Fritz Trainer - Nigel Davies The Tarrasch Defence is uploaded.

joakimvitriol: CB Trainer - Nigel Davies The Queen’s Gambit Declined Exchange Variation completed.

joakimvitriol: CB Trainer - Nigel Davies The f4 Sicilian completed.

high.hopes: Thanks joakimvitriol for all the uploads. Just so you know, I am getting errors when I unzip the f4 Sicilian trainer. Is there any chance you could re-upload it? Thank you.

joakimvitriol: Should I zip it again before reupload? I mean how do I know what I did wrong?

high.hopes: I am not sure. Your other uploads seem to work just fine. If it's not too much to ask, just try uploading it again, maybe it was a mediafire error the first time. Thanks!!

joakimvitriol: Uploaded again, I hope it will work fine now.

high.hopes: This time it works perfectly. Thank you so much!

joakimvitriol: Ch3ss-FM - Boris Alterman - Grand Prix Attack uploaded. mediafire.com/antoniusblock

joakimvitriol: Ch3ss-FM - Boris Alterman - Sicilian Nimzowitsch uploaded. Edit: and Ch3ss-FM - Boris Alterman - Sicilian Tal Gambit

joakimvitriol: and Ch3ss-Fm - Ronen Har-Zvi - Sicilian Moscow Variation

illuminat: Hello Joakimvitriol, first of all i want to thank you for your effort!! I like very much the new Chess-FM broadcasts. It would be nice, if you could continue the "broadcast" in the future... Greetings Illuminat

joakimvitriol: Sorry, don't have any more Chess-FM videos but here is Fritz Trainer Adrian Mikhalchishin Power of Exchange: http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=4257fc87d580e536b9fe86fa3433a2e76145af839ad0b220d8c7c6998cb4ca21 Here is ICC’s Game of the Day with Peter Svidler: http://www.chessvibes.com/reports/learn-from-shirov-and-svidler/#more-21402

engine_c: I agree with your proposition. I found this link on this forum ,but i dont know where i save it for just in case, its very similar with your proposition.Click here!

sparky: That's the seeker's library alright! Seems like we're still waiting for one person to take charge of the ultimate library though...

joakimvitriol: Alexej Shirov The Philidor Defence: http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=4257fc87d580e536b9fe86fa3433a2e7f3d2ef01f1f47004935cbde7375ca78c

Hannibal Lector: joakimvitriol : The Philidor - archives is bad

high.hopes: Yes, I concur. Could you please re-upload it? Thanks.

joakimvitriol: I'll try to understand what I did wrong then I will re-up. Edit: I extracted files from my comp and everything worked fine so problem must occurred when uploading. The question is are all files bad or I should re-up only few? What file archiver says, which files are bad?

high.hopes: 7-zip stops during unzipping the first part Alexej Shirov The Philidor Defence.7z.001. So at least the first one is corrupted. There could be others though. Thank you.

joakimvitriol: first part re-uploaded Edit: let me know what next part to re-upload

Hannibal Lector: joakimvitriol ïèøåò: Edit: let me know what next part to re-upload sorry :( archives is bad

joakimvitriol: First part re-uploaded again. If this time doesn't work then I have no idea what else to do.

high.hopes: Same problem with the new upload. I wonder if it's because of the 7-zip different versions we might be using. I am using 9.10 beta (the latest I think). Is it possible to try a different zip program? Thanks for all the trouble you are going through.

joakimvitriol: I think that maybe there is problem with my browser so I'll try to re-upload with different browser. I am not sure but I think that earlier uploads that work fine where uploaded with different browser. I'll let you know when I upload. I'll do it soon as I can.

illuminat: Hello, i am using 7-zip 4.65 and i have the same fault too. But i think it isn't the first file which is damaged. 7-zip give always the error message displaying the first file is damaged regardless where the fault is. When i try to unpack the file i could see that at ca. 80 MB unpacked the error message came - So its perhaps the 3rd or 4th file which is damaged. It would be nice if these files could be reuploaded! Thanks! Illuminat

joakimvitriol: Is it possible to detect what files exactly are corrupt? I will re-upload 3rd and 4th but we can't be sure. I remember that some archivers detects exactly what files are erroneous. In ultima linea I'll re-upload all files. Edit: 3rd part re-uploaded Iluminat, maybe you should try now and if it shows error message at later stage then we are closer to solve the problem.

Hannibal Lector: joakimvitriol

illuminat: Hello joakimvitriol, now all files are okay and the unpacking succeeded!! I'm glad, that i could help to identify the corrupted file. Thank you for your great work!! Did you have access to other fritztrainers on demonoid like Shirov- Sicilian with Bishop b5 or Collins- e4 repertoire for White ? It would be great if you could offer these or other newones on mediafire! Greetings Illuminat

joakimvitriol: Great that it finally work! Good hint about 3rd part Iluminat. Next I will upload Sam Collins 1.e4 Repertoire but it's going to take some time because of my poor uploading speed. I'll let you know when complete upload.

high.hopes: Yes, it worked for me too. Thanks a lot joakimvitriol!!

X-Man: Bologan - caro kann ? Ftacnik - The Grunfeld defense ?

joakimvitriol: 1.e4 Repertoire: http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=4257fc87d580e536b9fe86fa3433a2e7dfcc6f5907bd4122f0a154af670496da

illuminat: Hello joakimvitriol, thanks for your new upload!! That was really fast, despit your slow connection javascript:pst3('%20 %20','','','','') Greetings Illuminat

illuminat: Hello joakimvitriol, unfortunately i had to report that your new upload (Sam Collins e4) is damaged (I've downloaded it twice for beeing sure). When i unpack it, it shows an error message after ca.25 MB, that indicates that perhaps the first file may be damaged. It would be great if you could reupload it! Thanks in advance! Greetings Illuminat

joakimvitriol: first part re-uploaded

illuminat: Hello joakimvitriol, i've downloaded the "new" first part and the second part twice, but i got a error message at ca. 100MB. So it could be the first file or the second. Perhaps the second file, because with the "old" first file the error message came much earlier. Thank you for your patience... Greetings illuminat

kakaka: I also have problem. Probably more than one part is corrupted. Thanks.

chessgod101: Hello The_Seeker. If there is anything you want to add to your library from my directory, feel free to transfer it over.

joakimvitriol: second part re-uploaded At least we know now that there is no problem with browser. Maybe my connection is bad at certain time of the day.

the_seeker: Thanks, chessgod, but it seems, despite earlier assurances, noone is really interested in an organized team work to create a chess library, so i have given up on regular uploads. I am open to fullfil an requests I can, though.

Kir: joakimvitriol : still bad, sorry. Try once again if possible. Maybe you should re-zip it?

joakimvitriol: second part uploaded again and Kir, there is uploading problem, compression is OK, I extracted files on my computer twice and everything worked fine. Maybe I should try to upload to some different hosting site.

Tix: Hi, sorry, I've been quite busy lately. For the talk we had about uploading files, I think I need a "pass" in order to upload to your library, right? I should be able to upload some books from time to times. thanks see you.

Kir: joakimvitriol - trying to unzip gives me a long error list (in fact, all media files and more), the resulting folder being 115 Mb large. So it's maybe part 2 or part 1. Or the last one? I have no idea, except that part 3 might be ok.

illuminat: Hello joakimvitriol, there is still the error when unpacking your files... Could you please reupload it once more. I think, it's still the first file which is corrupted, because the error comes at ca. 96 MB. Thank you for your effort!! Greetings Illuminat

joakimvitriol: I uploaded second part again and then downloaded files myself and my 7-zip got error about 113 MB so according second part is corrupted again. It starts to irritate very much I think that best option will be to upload to some other hosting site just to see what will happen. If you people have some suggestions about good hosting sites similar to mediafire I am all ears. And I am willing to help with Seekers original idea as much as I can according to my slow and as we see bad connection because who knows what will happen with our beloved forum. Just instruct me what to do. Here is similar idea so I think we should all work together: http://immortal223.borda.ru/?1-16-0-00000385-000-0-0-1268056989 Edit: Right now I am uploading second part to megaupload (speed 12,87 kB/s) but not good as mediafire, megaupload faq: "How long does Megaupload store my files? If you are a registered user without premium status, your files will be stored until at least 90 days after their last download."

joakimvitriol: second part: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7L8VP9JP I hope it will work now.

illuminat: Hello joakimvitriol, it's still the same error. But i think it's still the first part, which is corrupted. Because the error message comes at 96 MB compressed or 114 MB working size !! This indicates that it is the first file! It would be great if you had the patience to upload the first file once more! Megaupload seems to me a good alternative to mediafire, but i also prefer mediafire. Greetings Illuminat

kakaka: I also think that the problem is the first part, becuase I compared the second part in Mediafire and Megaupload and they are identical. May be, there are problems in the third or fourth part too. Thanks for your big effort!

joakimvitriol: I am going to re-zip and upload new much smaller files to mediafire (megaupload obviously didn't help) so it will be easier to re-upload broken files again.

illuminat: Hello joakimvitriol, i don't think that is a good idea, because if you upload more smaller files it is also more difficult to identify which file is corrupt. Otherwise you should use winrar instead of 7-zip, because in winrar it is easy to identify which file is corrupt (7-zip everytime shows the error message on the first part, but it could be every file...). I think it is much easier for you to upload the first file once more. I am very optimistic, that this would solve the problem! Greetings Illuminat

sparky: hi seeker, we'll need someone to step up to organise that. one thing though. went in to ur mediafire library to look for something today. but it's empty... did mediafire delete all your files?

the_seeker: No, they haven't. Due to recent development, I have temporarily set all the content to private.

sparky: okie thx

hukumka: Does anyone know where i can find Bologan's Caro Kann Ftrainer Thanks!

carolina: Hi seeker, I am interested and I would like to help you. Pls contact me carolina
