The Najdorf is one of the most sharp, dynamic, and popular openings that Black can play and is a firm favorite amongst the world's elite players, including world number one Garry Kasparov. From the Back Cover The Najdorf Sicilian is one of the most sharp, dynamic and popular openings that Black can play and is a firm favorite amongst the world’s elite players, including world number one Garry Kasparov. From very early on, Black unbalances the game to a reach a position in which one can play for the win without exceptional risk. The soundness of the Najdorf has never been seriously doubted, but some players can be put off by the ever-spiraling amount of theory amassed on this great opening. In Play the Najdorf: Scheveningen Style, however, Grandmaster and openings expert John Emms condenses this mountain to produce a workable black repertoire against all of White’s possible options. Emms concentrates on lines where Black adopts a very early ..e7-e6, thus establishing the well-known Scheveningen pawn structure. Play the Najdorf explains an opening championed by Garry Kasparov; is written by a renowned openings theoretician; covers all of White’s main replies. So there's definitely a niche for a book on the subject. The book under review is a godsend for a 1.d4 player like myself who wants a clear explanation of ideas. For instance, in the classical set-up (...c6, ...Nbd7, ...Be7), what does one aim for in the tabiya position that arises after 12....e5? The book, as the author makes clear, doesn't cover every main line: it restricts itself to the Tartakower, the Lasker, the Exchange, the Classical, the Cambridge Springs, and the Bf4 lines. The author explains the ideas in each of these lines using games from both past and present. Every class player who plays or encounters the QGD will benefit from this, and even experts may pick up a few things. In my humble opinion, mastery of QGD and QGA postions is essential for every chessplayer, regardless of whether he plays them or not.To this extent, the book belongs on every player's shelf.

He also takes a look at the history of the chess computer, and how its 'thinking' methods have developed since the early days. Кевин: Understanding the Leningrad Dutch by Valeri Beim (December 2002) http://ifolder.ru/4031050 (3528 KB) Product Description The Leningrad System of the Dutch Defense is an interesting hybrid of the Dutch and the King's Indian. For many years, it was viewed with some suspicion in view of the slight positional weaknesses created in Black's position. However, in the 1980s dynamic new approaches were introduced by such players as Sergei Dolmatov, Evgeny Bareev, Mikhail Gurevich and especially Vladimir Malaniuk. These players showed how an active approach could compensate for these defects, and offer Black excellent winning chances. Since then, the Leningrad has been a popular and effective opening choice for players of all levels. A good understanding of the themes of the Leningrad is at least as important as detailed knowledge of its theory. Valeri Beim has a wealth of experience with the Leningrad Dutch and is an accomplished trainer, so is ideally qualified to guide the reader through the twists and turns of this remarkable opening. About the Author Valeri Beim is a grandmaster who lives in Austria. He has won numerous tournaments and plays in the Austrian and German leagues. For many years, he was the head trainer at the chess school in Odessa (Ukraine) and he was also the trainer of the Israeli olympiad team. This is his second chess book.

Renegat23: Moskalenko, Victor - The Fabulous Budapest Gambit (2007). My first experience with the Budapest Gambit was a thin, pale gray pamphlet that carried pages of moves followed by cryptic evaluations. Oh yes, there were a few complete games included; yet, to gain a better understanding, we would scour the available chess literature for any games in print. It was a time when Bisguier or Ljubojevic would essay the Budapest as a winning attempt. How times have changed. As I write this, there is news that Mamedyarov used the Budapest to draw no less a name than Kramnik. For me it was all the more joyous, as I had recently finished reading The Fabulous Budapest Gambit by Victor Moskalenko and once again felt the tugging of the Black e-pawn to bypass e6 on its way up the board. When I found out that a new book on the Budapest was coming out, my ears perked up. Curiosity followed when I found out the book would be written by a GM. Though the defense has been played by a number of GM's in the last three decades, I thought it was still on the "play only in case of emergency" list. I had played the Budapest for a few years and found that it was a lot of fun, but not anything to build a repertoire around. So I looked forward to seeing the book. immortal223: Josh Waitzkin, «The Art of Learning: A Journey in the Pursuit of Excellence» Free Press | ISBN 0743277457 | Password: polite786 | PDF | 27,5 Mb (Uncompressed) Description: Josh Waitzkin knows what it means to be at the top of his game. A public figure since winning his first National Chess Championship at the age of nine, Waitzkin was catapulted into a media whirlwind as a teenager when his father's book Searching for Bobby Fischer was made into a major motion picture. After dominating the scholastic chess world for ten years, Waitzkin expanded his horizons, taking on the martial art Tai Chi Chuan and ultimately earning the title of World Champion. How was he able to reach the pinnacle of two disciplines that on the surface seem so different? "I've come to realize that what I am best at is not Tai Chi, and it is not chess," he says. "What I am best at is the art of learning." In his riveting new book, The Art of Learning, Waitzkin tells his remarkable story of personal achievement and shares the principles of learning and performance that have propelled him to the top -- twice. With a narrative that combines heart-stopping martial arts wars and tense chess face-offs with life lessons that speak to all of us, The Art of Learning takes readers through Waitzkin's unique journey to excellence. He explains in clear detail how a well-thought-out, principled approach to learning is what separates success from failure. Waitzkin believes that achievement, even at the championship level, is a function of a lifestyle that fuels a creative, resilient growth process. Rather than focusing on climactic wins, Waitzkin reveals the inner workings of his everyday method, from systematically triggering intuitive breakthroughs, to honing techniques into states of remarkable potency, to mastering the art of performance psychology. Through his own example, Waitzkin explains how to embrace defeat and make mistakes work for you. Does your opponent make you angry? Waitzkin describes how to channel emotions into creative fuel. As he explains it, obstacles are not obstacles but challenges to overcome, to spur the growth process by turning weaknesses into strengths. He illustrates the exact routines that he has used in all of his competitions, whether mental or physical, so that you too can achieve your peak performance zone in any competitive or professional circumstance. In stories ranging from his early years taking on chess hustlers as a seven year old in New York City's Washington Square Park, to dealing with the pressures of having a film made about his life, to International Chess Championships in India, Hungary, and Brazil, to gripping battles against powerhouse fighters in Taiwan in the Push Hands World Championships, The Art of Learning encapsulates an extraordinary competitor's life lessons in a page-turning narrative. http://rapidshare.com/files/180394342/ARTLRNNG.rar

immortal223: Chess Strategy in Action by John Watson (Aug 2003) Publisher: Gambit Publications | Pages: 287 | 2003-08 | ISBN 1901983692 | PDF | 20 MB Product Description John Watson fleshes out the theory presented to enormous acclaim in Secrets of Modern Chess Strategy and extends it into new areas. He illustrates the modern practice of chess with many examples from imaginative players such as Kasparov, Kramnik, Anand, Ivanchuk and tempestuous innovators such as Shirov and Morozevich. In Secrets of Modern Chess Strategy, Watson broke new ground by describing the developments in chess strategy since the time of Nimzowitsch. He explained how modern players are more willing than their predecessors to favour dynamic considerations over static ones, and how they have increasingly transcended the limiting 'rules' which influenced play in earlier times. The dominant results of Garry Kasparov and the rise of a new generation of supergrandmasters testify to the effectiveness of this dynamic and open-minded philosophy which has enriched modern chess. Those who enjoyed Secrets of Modern Chess Strategy will welcome the clarification of important concepts. Chess Strategy in Action can also be read on its own as an outstanding collection of modern games with thoughtful and enlightening annotations. http://w18.easy-share.com/1702529861.html http://rapidshare.com/files/166499974/1901983692.rar

Кевин: How to Calculate Chess Tactics by Valeri Beim (August 30, 2006) Publisher: Gambit Publications | Pages: 176 pages | 2006-08 | djvu | 6.51 MB Product Description Thinking methods are at the heart of the chess struggle, yet most players devote little conscious effort to improving their calculating ability. Much of the previous literature on the subject has presented idealized models that have limited relevance to the hurly-burly of practical chess, or else provide little more than ad hoc suggestions. Here, experienced trainer Valeri Beim strikes a balance by explaining how to use intuition and logic together to solve tactical problems in a methodical way. He also offers advice on when it is best to calculate ‘like a machine', and when it is better to rely on intuitive assessment. http://ifolder.ru/4030842

It was the first book based on computer-generated position databases that are guaranteed to provide the actual result of a position. However, this book is no computer print-out. Кевин: How to Play the English Opening by Anatoly Karpov (October 1, 2007) Product Description The English Opening (1.c4) got its name because it was first used in international competition by an Englishman: 19th-century world chess champion Howard Staunton. But it achieved the great popularity it enjoys today with the help of a Russian: the author of this definitive book, former world champion Anatoly Karpov. Among its advantages, as Karpov demonstrates, is that it can transpose into many other openings, including the Queen’s Gambit Declined, the Reti, the Caro-Kann, the Sicilian with colors reversed, or the Polish—any one of which may provide a winning edge by leading an opponent into unfamiliar territory. This kind of flexibility is what every player needs, and Karpov provides it with a thoroughness no one else could possibly match. About the Author Anatoly Karpov is a living legend of chess; he has dominated the world of the chess for over a decade as the world chess champion between 1975 and 1985. Garry Kasparov, the current champion, dethroned him and the two ideologically opposed Russians have had a bitter rivalry ever since. Anatoly Karpov is also the winner of the largest number of tournaments in the history of chess, with more than 160 due tournaments. He is considered the best positional player of history of chess and is the author of several other books on chess theory. He lives in Russia. Very nicely edited." -- Peter Doggers at ChessVibes.com Product Description Anatoly Karpov’s legendary endgame technique has always been something of an enigma. Karpov became worldchampion 1975 (having been preceded by Bobby Fischer). He managed to win positions which nearly everybody else estimated as a draw with his fine end game technique. This book for the first time takes a close look at this end game technique, ex plaining the finer points better than Karpov himself has ever cared to do. A very in structive and en tertaining book. Tigran Petrosian: His life and games by Viktor Vasiliev (1974) From back cover: Petrosian is often called too cautious. Yet he defeated Botvinnik, Spassky, Korchnoi, Portisch, Polugaevsky and others, in set matches. His Soviet colleagues, intent on pyshing 'dynamism,' castigated him for his maneuvering style. Yet he was Soviet Champion three times. The public derides him for drawing too many games. Yet he was Champion of the World for six years. Tigran Petrosian's place in history - a World Champion with a distinctive personal style - is secure. But still he is misunderstood by many of his contemporaries. As Larry Evans writes: 'Tigran Petrosian is one of the most original and mystifying players in the history of chess.' Steinitz in his time was called crazy, Lasker was lucky (his rivals said), Nimzovich and Reti horrified their colleagues. None of them was understood by his contemporaries, but today we recognize that each made vital contributions to the art of chess and to its fundamental theory. Now RHM has the pleasure of presenting the first book that understand Petrosian. Through biographical accounts, all based on extensive personal interviews, Petrosian's style is traced to its origins (Nimzovich); through deep game analysis, all based on Petrosian's own notes or those of his trainer Suetin, his philosophy of chess is linked to his character. This book also explains why and how Petrosian's methods work in practice. the reader should be willing to suspend his prejudices and realize that there is a great deal he can learn from Petrosian, since his methods are so successful. Such a reader should not be surprised to find his own results improving markedly. Even if you only like chess gossip - and don't we all -- allow yourself to be guiled by one of the sharpest minds in chess. His comments on the life and times of a professional chess master in the Soviet Union, his attitudes toward his contemporaries, his observations on life in general - all are sure to become part of the literary heritage of chess. These systems have proved their right of existence, despite the numerous attempts to refute them once and for all. The positions are so diverse strategically and so rich tactically that they deserve a separate volume. Black avoids early clashes and narrows his “sphere of influence” to only three ranks. However, his harmonious development enables him to attack often White’s powerful center successfully. The 14th World Champion Khalifman recommends against the majority of the flank systems schemes with f2-f4, which provide additional control over the center. He included in this fundamental work plenty of new and original analyses which surely will cause Black a lot of trouble! 400 pages Perfect Your Chess by Andrei Volokitin, Vladimir Grabinsky and Steve Giddins (Translator) (June 30, 2007) http://rapidshare.com/files/111119709/vasko-perfect_your_chess.pdf.html | 11774 KB 159 pages

From the Back Cover Alekhine's Defence is a sharp and controversial opening in which Black attacks from the very first move, provoking White into lunging forward in the centre. White is often able to construct an impressively large central pawn formation, but Black's hope is that this becomes over-stretched and disintegrates in the face of a vicious counterattack. Unsurprisingly, Alekhine's Defence has always been a favourite amongst uncompromising players such as Fischer and Alekhine himself, while more recently it's been utilised by the likes of Ivanchuk and Short. Кевин: The Taimanov Sicilian by Graham Burgess (November 1, 2000) http://rapidshare.com/files/119465539/Burgess_Graham-The_Taimanov_Sicilian.pdf Product Description The Taimanov Variation is one of Black's most flexible approaches to the Sicilian. With his "ideal" move order, Black maintains plenty of options while sidestepping some of White's most dangerous attacking plans. The main game-plan is counterattack, but unlike in many Sicilian lines, Black can tailor his plan of development according to how White arranges his pieces. The Taimanov has been used to good effect by many outstanding players of recent decades, notably Karpov, Polugaevsky, Andersson, and of course, Taimanov himself. This book discusses in detail all lines after 1 e4 c5 2 Nf3 e6 3 d4 cxd4 Nxd4 Nc6, including the "pure" Taimanov approach with Nge7 and the more popular "Paulsen" lines with ...Qc7. Move-order subtleties, including possible transpositions to the Scheveningen, are discussed in detail. All analysis has been scrupulously computer-checked. About the Author Graham Burges holds the world record for marathon blitz chess-playing. He is a highly versatile chess writer, whose previous books range from general guides for relatively inexperienced players to high-level theoretical manuals. His "Mammoth Book of Chess" won the 1997 British Chess Federation Book of the Year Award, while "Nunn's Chess Openings" of which he is a co-author, has established itself as the leading modern one-volume openings encyclopedia. 192 pages | Gambit Publications | 10561 KB Essential Chess Sacrifices by David Lemoir (November 2003) http://rapidshare.com/files/119466671/David_LeMoir-Essential_Chess_Sacrifices.pdf Product Description Sacrifices are an essential part of chess. Those who never consider sacrificing will miss countless opportunities and find that promising positions repeatedly slip away. Players who do not appreciate their opponents' sacrificial possibilities will be unable to see danger signs, and find themselves on the wrong end of too many king-hunts. Rather than merely cataloguing the various possibilities and providing examples, LeMoir discusses the possible follow-ups to the sacrifices, the defensive options against them, and the positional factors that might suggest whether the sacrifice will be sound or unsound. There are many important types of chess positions that can only be played well by those who understand the thematic sacrifices that are possible. About the Author David LeMoir is an experienced chess-player and writer. He twice won the championship of the West of England and was runner-up on four occasions. In 2000, he was champion of the English county of Norfolk. In a successful career as a business strategy consultant, he has made good use of the strategic and decision-making skills that are developed by playing chess. Кевин: The Power Chess Program: Book 1: A Unique Training Course to Improve Your Chess by Nigel Davies (June 30, 2003) http://rapidshare.com/files/130129989/Nigel_Davies_-_The_Power_Chess_Program.pdf | 12089 KB Product Description Begun as a correspondence course, The Power Chess Program is now available between covers! A series of 12 lessons guides the student through the essential elements of chess strategy. The key points are then reinforced with a set of thematic test positions for the reader to solve. There is part 2 of that GM Davies' chess self-instruction manual published, however, I couldn't find it anywhere across the net. Anyway, one can upgrade greatly even after working this one out. In the Portuguese, Black offers a pawn for rapid development and the chance to exploit weak squares in the enemy camp. The resulting play is sharp and trappy, with plenty of "coffeehouse" flavor for those wishing to mix it up as Black. An added benefit is the newness of the line, which came into prominence only in the early 1990s. Therefore many players of White can still be caught unaware, falling victim to an early knockout. No mere surprise weapon, however, the Portuguese has been tested in the fire of world class tournament chess. Proof of the line's vitality is it's adoption by aggressive Grandmasters such as Spraggett, Hodgson, Shirov and Hebden. This book is the first devoted exclusively to the Portuguese Variation. In a research tour de force, NM Selby Anderson has assembled all relevant games and articles, then fed it to top chess engines like Fritz4 and Chess Machine. Consequently, the high percentage of original analysis found here stands in stark contrast to the typical opening monograph. Players of any level will appreciate the author's light and witty approach all the while dispensing lethal doses of tactical toxins. Pity the poor player who stumbles into the Portuguese without this book! Paperback: 96 pages Publisher: Pickard and Son Publishers Tiger's Modern by Tiger Hillarp Persson (September 15, 2005) http://rapidshare.com/files/134398555/Tiger_s_Modern___Persson_T_H_.pdf | 15990 KB Product Description In this book Swedish grandmaster Tiger Hillarp Persson presents his own favourite defence against 1.e4, the Modern Defence with a6. With his trademark laidback approach, he explains the different White replies to his system. His repertoire is based on deep understanding, common themes, and interesting games, rather than simply theory to be memorized. Pieces are sacrificed in a great number of games and famous grandmasters meet their doom on the pages of this refreshingly lively opening book. In today's chess teaching, opening theory often reaches deep into the middlegame, and players struggle to create something new and inspiring at the chessboard. Here Tiger Hillarp Persson shows that it is possible to be original at an early stage. About the Author Tiger Hillarp Persson is a grandmaster from Sweden who is famous for his original style. He is hard to beat, and he has also defeated players of even the highest level. The son of an author and an artist, he was born creative, and has applied this quality to his chess. In the most critical variations, Rogozenko provides a choice between a solid and an aggressive option. He caters for those who meet 2 Nf3 with the three main moves, 2...d6, 2...e6 and 2...Nc6. These occur surprisingly often in practice and are extremely tactical in nature. This book unites man and machine in the searh for ultimate answers. The computer databases created by Ken Thompson, formerly of Bell Laboratories, can state with certainty the correct result of any position with five pieces or fewer. John Nunn has extracted the most important information from these databases and presented it in the form of guidelines and specific key positions, which can be more readily digested by the human mind. With most competitive games nowadays being played to a finish in a single session, this knowledge may prove invaluable over the board. Since the first edition of this book was published, the databases for many six-man endings have been created, resulting in some surprising and paradoxical discoveries. The coverage has therefore been expanded to include the most interesting features of these endings. About the Author John Nunn is a grandmaster from England. Chess Strategy in Action by John Watson (2003) http://rapidshare.com/files/137303355/Watson.rar | 3321 KB Product Description John Watson fleshes out the theory presented to enormous acclaim in Secrets of Modern Chess Strategy and extends it into new areas. Кевин: The Tarrasch Formula by Sam Palatnik (September 2004) http://rapidshare.com/files/139819580/The_Tarrasch_Formula.pdf | 37259 KB Product Description Dr. Siegbert Tarrasch was the first to formulate and express the rule that "If one piece is badly placed, your whole game is bad". The genius of this phrase lies in its simplicity as well as its correctness. Properly applied, it is a significant addition to Steinitz's theory. On the basis of this single axiom, various types of positions can be studied where the difference in force between corresponding pieces. Applying the Tarrasch Formula in this way develops and builds chess theory by emphasising the interrelationship between the location of a piece and its real power. Examine any modern textbook of chess strategy and you will see its lasting value. The Tarrasch Formula is a fundamental and unifying principle that embraces familiar core concepts such as "good/bad bishop," "advantage of opposite-coloured bishops in an attach", "superiority of knight over bishop" (and vice versa), and so forth. Playing steadily to reduce the power of a single enemy piece, to "turn down the volume" until its normal voice become only a whisper, can provide enough advantage to win the game. Why? Because it is functionally the same as winning a piece. Every chess player loves to have an extra piece. This book points the way toward having a virtual extra piece. Thinking of a strategy in this way is a very useful part of your chess planning. It offers a straightforward and effective method for improving your decision-making and move selection, as demonstrated in the games collected for this new book. You will gain an understanding of the opening and the middlegames to which it leads, enabling you to find the right moves and plans in your own games. It is as if you were sitting at the board with a chess coach answering your questions about the plans for both sides, the ideas behind particular moves, and what specific knowledge you need to have. While an immensely solid and classical choice for Black, it has remained highly topical for more than a century. Both sides have ways to create imbalance and test their opponent's skills and knowledge in a full-blooded struggle. Most of the World Champions have taken both sides of the QGD, with Spassky and Karpov especially notable defenders of Black's cause. In addition to the traditional main lines with Bg5, White has at his disposal the Exchange Variation, and the Bf4 system, both of which can be handled in highly aggressive style if he wishes. Secrets of Modern Chess Strategy by John Watson (March 1999) http://rapidshare.com/files/151764531/Watson_SoMCS.rar | 5334 KB Product Description It is now seventy years since Nimzowitsch wrote his monumental work My System. While it remains a fundamental work on chess strategy, the way chess positions are handled has changed greatly since Nimzowitsch's time - both refinements to existing ideas, and completely new concepts. John Watson's book fulfils the need for a thorough, profound work on the modern handling of chess positions, and how Nimzowitsch's theories - still controversial and revolutionary at the time My System was written - have been refined and used alongside classical concepts. The first section of the book discusses how the understanding of classical themes, such as pawn majorities, the centre, and structural weaknesses, have been refined. Watson then moves on to discuss new concepts, including the willingness of modern players to accept backward pawns in return for dynamic play, the idea of a good 'bad' bishop, knights finding useful roles at the edge of the board and the exchange sacrifice idea that became prevalent with the post-war Soviet champions. This profound yet thoroughly practical work is rounded off with sections on prophylactic thinking, dynamism, modern concepts as they apply to the critical contemporary opening systems, and some thoughts on the future of chess. About the Author International Master John Watson is one of the world's most respected writers on chess. His groundbreaking four-volume work on the English firmly established his reputation in the 1980s, and he has produced a string of top-quality works since. Secrets of Modern Chess Strategy, Watson's first book for Gambit, won the British Chess Federation Book of the Year Award and the United States Chess Federation Fred Cramer Award for Best Book. He reviews chess books for The Week in Chess (website) and hosts a weekly radio show on the Internet Chess Club. Paperback: 274 pages Publisher: Gambit Publications 600 dpi.

Кевин: The Sicilian Sozin by Mikhail Golubev (2002-01-01) http://www.filefactory.com/file/2dbb8e/n/The_Sicilian_Sozin_rar (13.23 Mb) Product Description The Sozin Attack is White's most overtly aggressive counter to the Sicilian. White puts his bishop on c4 and often follows up with direct play against the black king. Unless Black defends with the utmost precision, the bishop's influence often fuels a deadly attack leading to a cascade of sacrifices and a brutal king hunt. The Sozin set-up can be employed against the Classical Sicilian, the Najdorf, and even the Scheveningen. Mikhail Golubev is a young grandmaster who has employed the Sozin with devastating effect throughout the whole of his adult chess career. Here he explains how White carries out that attack in its various forms (including some relatively positional lines), and presents in detail the theory of all its variations, including the razor-sharp Velimirovic Attack. About the Author Mikhail Golubev is a grandmaster from Odessa, Ukraine, who plays regularly in tournaments in eastern and central Europe. He is a noted expert in several sharp and aggressive opening systems, including the King's Indian and the Dragon. His first book, "Easy Guide to the Dragon" has been praised for the quality and quantity of its original analysis, and for Golubev's objectivity in identifying the critical lines. Setting it above the rest, the majority of game references are from the 1990s. Computers have also been used to make the book extremely accurate: full use has been made of databases of millions of games; tables have been generated from computer files, eliminating notation errors, impossible variations, etc.; powerful analytical engines have assisted with the analysis of tactical positions; a final "blundercheck" has made sure there are no wrong moves given. From the Back Cover Nunn's Chess Openings is the chess-player's new bible. This single volume covers all chess openings in detail and will enable every chess-player, right up to grandmaster standard, to play the opening with confidence. The Najdorf's fundamental soundness has been confirmed in countless top-level games, and in particular by Garry Kasparov's successful use of it throughout his career. White has tried a wide variety of approaches against the Najdorf, including quiet positional lines and the traditional main line with 6 Bg5. Recently the idea of a rapid kingside pawn advance has found favour. The Najdorf's landscape changes rapidly, and this presents its devotees with a complex task: they must not only keep up-to-date with sharp theoretical lines, but must also have a firm grasp of the strategies that underpin the main systems, both old and new. This book lends a helping hand to those who play the Najdorf or wish to take up this complex opening. Two Najdorf experts from Spain present a flexible repertoire for Black, including a wealth of original analysis of the critical variations. They also explain the key ideas behind the Najdorf, focusing on those plans that are most relevant to modern practice. Кевин: Beating the Fianchetto Defences by Efstratios Grivas (June 20, 2006) http://rapidshare.com/files/122552891/Grivas-Beating_the_fianchetto_defences.pdf | 14584 KB Product Description Grivas provides a full and detailed repertoire for White against five important openings: the Grünfeld, King's Indian, Benoni, Benko and Modern. In each case, he has recommended a line in which he has a wealth of experience, and has played a significant personal role in developing over many years. The recommendations are geared towards posing Black unconventional problems: your opponents will not be able to churn out lengthy memorized variations, but will need to solve problems at the board in positions that are somewhat different in character from those normally reached in these openings. Grivas has also chosen the repertoire so that it forms a seamless whole, and will fit alongside an English or Réti move-order, in addition to a standard 1 d4 repertoire. About the Author Grandmaster Efstratios Grivas lives in Athens and is also an International Arbiter and Organizer. He has represented his country on a great many occasions, winning an individual gold medal at the 1989 European Team Championship and an individual silver medal at the 1998 Olympiad. He is a federal trainer and an experienced writer. This is his second book on chess openings for Gambit. Кевин: Secrets of Chess Intuition by Alexander Beliavsky & Adrian Mikhalchishin (May 2002) http://rapidshare.com/files/155639928/Alexander_Beliavsky___Adrian_Mikhalchishin_-_Secrets_of_Chess_Intuition.djvu | 8137 KB Product Description Intuition is central to all chess decision-making, and an understanding of its role is vital in improving one's game. Players who try to calculate everything to a finish are doomed to lose out to those who use their logical and intuitive abilities in harmony with one another. This book, the first devoted to the role of intuition in chess, explains how to allow your intuition to reach its full potential and provides guidance on the types of positions in which one should rely heavily on intuition, and on those where one ought to be more analytical. The two authors, both top-level authors and players, have drawn examples from modern practice and from the classics, with special emphasis on players whose intuition has been legendary, such as Mikhail Tal. The authors devote particular attention to the role of intuition in sacrifices, whether for attacking, defensive or positional purposes. About the Author Alexander Beliavsky is a famous grandmaster from Ukraine who now plays for Slovenia. He was World Junior Champion in 1973 and has been among the world elite for more than twenty years. His play is marked by excellent theoretical preparation, fighting spirit and a determined approach. Кевин: Chess Explained: The c3 Sicilian by Sam Collins (April 25, 2007) http://rapidshare.com/files/155972679/Sam_Collins_-_Chess_Explained_The_c3_Sicilian__2007_.pdf | 8620 KB Product Description Chess Explained is a new series of books about chess openings. They are not theoretical works in the traditional sense, but more a series of lessons from a chess expert with extensive over-the-board experience with an opening. You will gain an understanding of the opening and the middlegames to which it leads, enabling you to find the right moves and plans in your own games. It is as if you were sitting at the board with a chess coach answering your questions about the plans for both sides, the ideas behind particular moves, and what specific knowledge you need to have. The c3 Sicilian is one of White's most popular and poisonous ways to avoid the main lines of the Sicilian. With the forcing line 1 e4 c5 2 c3, White denies his opponent the chance to demonstrate his preparation in some chaotic system; instead Black will have to fight carefully for equality in a more rational position of White's choosing. There are plenty of tricks and traps in the c3 Sicilian, and the open piece-play that often results can lead to quick attacks and means that careless play will rarely go unpunished. About the Author Sam Collins is a young International Master from Ireland who won the Irish Championship in 2002. He competed in several World and European junior championships and has represented Ireland in four Olympiads, winning a gold medal at Bled in 2002. He is also an experienced chess teacher who has lectured at the Berkeley Chess School in California. His previous book for Gambit was the highly successful general opening work Understanding the Chess Openings. It is as if you were sitting at the board with a chess coach answering your questions about the plans for both sides, the ideas behind particular moves, and what specific knowledge you need to have. The Caro-Kann is one of the most popular responses to 1 e4. Black stakes a claim to the central squares and seeks free development for all his pieces. While solid, it is by no means a drawing weapon – the resulting positions generally contain at least a degree of imbalance and the critical lines lead to sharp positions with chances for both sides. Many new approaches for both sides have been developed in recent years, and a good understanding of these ideas is vital for anyone looking to handle either side of the Caro with success. About the Author Peter Wells is a grandmaster from England who regularly competes in international tournaments. He was runner-up in the British Championship in 1991, 1999 and 2001.
